Click here to learn the Nama Legend of the origin of the Fish River Canyon.

The largest Canyon in Africa and the second largest in the world (after the Grand Canyon in northern Arizona, USA).

At about 160km long in total, just under 550m at it’s deepest point and 27km at it’s widest point, this is a very impressive landscape.

Day hikes into the canyon are STRICTLY prohibited. A very tough 85km 4 - 5 day hiking trail is available from mid April to mid September, and needs a minimum of 3 persons, each with a medical fitness certificate.

Likewise for those who want to explore the beauty of the Fish River Canyon, various tours are offered by Mule Trails Namibia, where mules carry your heavy luggage, leaving you with a lighter day pack, making it easier to explore the area with a professional guide.
